People I work with improve their lives. Awakening from depression; quieting anxiety; smoothing relationships; improving communication; navigating life transitions; and growing to know and like themselves.
You may feel uncomfortable or frustrated that life is not moving in a positive direction. If that is the case we can work together to develop insights and discover options. Generally people have a variety of habitual ways of engaging with life. The habits of thought, feeling, and meaning making are often unconscious, and so they seem like our hard-wiring. They aren't, we can develop new habits.
There are healthy ways to cope with stress, resolve distress, or develop a more satisfying life. Being heard non-judgmentally, with empathy and positive regard, is a powerful starting point. We relax, and discover and tap into our core resources. People who've come this far do have resources, whether or not they are in touch with them. There are also some very practical ways of strengthening our emotional well being.
If your life seems out of control because of anger, addiction - of any kind, or aggression in your relationship or in general, we can work together to make it better. Your behaviour and choices will reflect yourself more fully - your better self, the part of you that wants to make changes.
The foundation of my clinical practice is a strong "therapeutic relationship". Your experience takes center stage, and together we clarify your counselling goals. I encourage - and even challenge - my clients within a safe and respectful environment.
My practice is oriented to change. People sometimes want to change patterns of behavior, patterns of thoughts, or patterns in their feelings. My clinical foundation is client centered: compassionate and curious engagement. Interventions to support a client's progress may come from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness practice, systems or feminist theories. Your needs are at the center of my work. We should meet.
